Course Descriptions

- Art Class
- Experience the creative process and learn the fundamentals of design as
you explore hands-on drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, and clay or
other 3-D media! Be inspired by artistic styles and cultures throughout history
to create your own original works of art! Work in a wonderful art studio!
All materials will be provided for classroom use. (Lab Fee $25 paid directly
to teacher.)
- Ceramics
- This is a general ceramics class. We will cover hand building and potter wheel techniques. (A $35.00 lab fee is required and students will need to bring an apron.)
- Drawing
- For the beginning artist, this class will help develop the ability and skill
to draw a still life, landscape, portrait, figure drawing on paper. Learn
to draw what you see and express your ideas visually. "A picture is worth
a thousand words." We will use pencil, charcoal, conte, pen, brush, and
ink with our gesture and contour drawings. One outdoor class will be scheduled.
- Floral Arranging
- Learn floral arranging and bow making utilizing materials from your own
garden and a minimum amount of purchased items. Meet at the school for the first class and then go on a field trip to a local craft store to learn about supplies.
- Free Your Creativity Art Class
- National Award Winning Art Specialist, Joanne Frimel, provides a fun and educational, overall art class that will enhance your skills and spark your creativity. This class will cover the basics of DRAWING from life and from observation with a selection of dry or wet media; PAINTING - Learn interesting watercolor techniques vs. exploring with acrylic and mixed-media; birds and mask making with earth's CLAY will be kiln fired and decorated; fascinating printmaking and greeting cards; compose with COLLAGE! (A $30.00 lab fee is required and used strictly to purchase new supplies and to restock materials consumed.)
- Interior Design
- A basic survey course covering design theories, color, space planning, textiles,
specification of wall coverings, flooring and window treatments, accessorizing,
and lighting. There will be 16 sessions including field trips. ($10.00 copy
fee due first class.)
- Origami - Paper Folding
- Beginning Course. Things to make with paper: Folding, Cutting, & Origami.
You'll need your own Exacto knife, scissors, pencials & ruler. $5.00 supply
fee payable to instructor is required.
- Portrait Painting
- Learn to paint professional portraits in oils or pastels. Class will begin with a short demo. Most of the time will be spent developing individual style and improving techniques. Learning to work from the live model will be stressed.
- Painting - Advanced Techniques
- Finishing techniques to make a good painting great. We will start with critiques
and then proceed to make minor adjustments to create a more polished painting
that you can sell or enter into shows.
- Paint Along Landscape
- A class designed to cover all the basics of oil painting in a paint along
format. Teacher paints, students follow along. We will paint landscape, still
life, seascape, flowers and character study. Cost of supplies is approximately
$175.00. (An optional book is available through the instructor for $30.00)
- Painting - Beginning thru Advanced
- The beginning artist will use oil paint or acrylic paint or both (acrylic
paint can be used underneath oil) to create work that is imaginative. Learn
how to paint while having fun using colors and simple techniques to help you
get the results you want. We will focus on color theory first and then paint
landscapes and figures. Learn good composition, tonal values and light. Painting
techniques for foreground, middle ground and background, with shading techniques,
will be taught. Instruction is given with lectures, demonstration, and critiques.
- Painting - Color & Composition
- Learn to use color and value effectively in various compositions. Emphasis on organizing compositional elements in paintings.
- Painting - Lab
- Begin a painting or bring one you've already started for critiques and completion.
- Painting - Landscape
- Learn all about skies, trees, water, atmosphere, how to show distance and
everything related to landscape. Paint in any medium you prefer, should be
proficient in chosen medium. Cost of supplies varies with different mediums.
- Painting - Still Life
- Tired of copying photos? Make your art original by studying from life. Learn
to paint copper, pewter, china, clear glass, and the illusion of water in
a vase. Also, learn to paint drapery and add textures to objects.
- Painting - The Business Of Art
- This class teaches you how to make the change from amateur to professional
artist. Class includes pricing your work, marketing yourself as a professional
artist, copyright laws, and legal contract forms for artists.
- Painting - Watercolor
- Learn wet on wet, wet on dry, graded washes, glazing and brushwork. Students
need to be able to draw well. We will cover landscape, still life, seascape,
flowers and character study. Watercolor supplies cost approximately $150.00.
- Rubber Stamping With Stampin Up
- In this class we will cover basic techniques of stamping including wet and
dry embossing, blocking, 2-step stamping, bleaching, masking, eyelets, and
a variety of other techniques. We will make several projects including greeting
cards, magnets, coasters, notebooks, and even our own stamp. Students must
purchase their own supplies, but will have the option to buy them in class
if desired.
- Scrapbooking with Creative Memories Photo Albums and Scrapbooks
- Learn the basics of photo preservation by making safe, meaningful, and creative
photo albums. Students must purchase their own albums and supplies. You will
have the option of purchasing these in class. Make a family album, a heritage
album, a vacation scrapbook, a holiday photo book, etc. Take your pictures
out of boxes and drawers and put them in archival quality albums for friends
and family to enjoy. Bring 10-12 recent pictures relating to one event to
the first class; you will use them to make your first scrapbook page.
- Sculpting
- Sculpt the human head to improve your knowledge of anatomy in order to improve
your portrait painting skills..
- Stained Glass Art
- Tiffany method (copper foil), lead cane method, and garden art - individual
choice. Progress at own pace. Opportunity to make great gifts for all occasions.
Emphasis on learning basic techniques for all phases. Necessary tools and
supplies for first-time students will be available at $145.00. Repeat students
taught at their level.
- Vegetable & Fruit Carving
- Discover and learn the Thai tradition of beautiful Fruit and Vegetable Carving
to enliven any dish at any event. Our instructor, Ginggan Nantagowat, will
start with elegant, yet eimple pieces and help you realize your own creations.
