You are certain to find a course here! We offer a wide variety of computer classes, ranging from beginning classes through advanced web design and IT Certification. Most of our classes are conducted in the classroom at 9016 Westview during the Regular Semester. Periodically, we offer shorter courses, concentrating on a single subject matter.

To maximize your learning experience, our classes are usually taught with 1 student per computer. Occasionally, depending upon the subject matter, shared resources may be required.

Textbooks are required for the computer classes. Cost of textbooks are not included in the tuition. Book cost is payable on the first day of class. Book/Material prices vary from $40 to $45, depending on course being taken.

Our computer courses are approved for CPE (Certified Professional Education) Credit.

Mature Youth with the prerequisites are welcome in all our computer classes with instructor's approval. Parents of students under 16 must speak with instructor prior to registering. Please call 713-365-5660 to leave a message for the instructor.

  Beginning Computers:
Basics of Windows

A must for beginning and experienced users. Learn the basics of the Windows operating systems. Covers navigating windows, customizing desktop, screen savers, creating shortcuts, installing/removing software, CDs, file management (such as finding files; deleting, copying, moving, and renaming files; creating/deleting folders) and MUCH MUCH MORE!

Prerequisite: No experience is necessary. This is a beginning level class.
 
  Build Your Own Computer

    Build It Faster, More Powerful, Cheaper! Learn to build computers for personal use or profit. Learn about computer hardware while building your own computer in class! We'll teach you how to choose components to build a fast, efficient computer; how and where to purchase parts; and step-by-step how to build and test your computer. Includes installing Windows, hardware drivers, and your software. With instructor help and guidance, each student will build their own computer during class. Tuition does not include the price of computer parts. Computer parts usually cost approx. $400-$800 depending on individual choices and where the student purchases parts.

Prerequisite: Must have good basic Windows skills, including navigating, using the mouse, installing software, and file management. This is not an entry-level class for beginners.

Jamison
Whether applying for a new job that requires speed and accuracy or simply wanting to make the most of your computer time... this course is for you! Learn touch typing using the computer keyboard and increase your speed and accuracy. Whether a beginner or intermediate, these classes will help you gain the confidence and typing skills you need and want.

Prerequisite: This is a beginning level class. Must have basic Windows skills, including starting programs and using the mouse.
 
  The Internet

    Covers Internet and e-mail. Learn sending and receiving e-mail, e-mail attachments, using Instant Messenger for chatting, Skype for free voice-over-Internet, searching for information, uploading and downloading, file compression, and much more.

Prerequisite: Must have good basic Windows skills, including navigating and using the mouse. This is a beginning Internet course, not an entry-level class for beginners with no computer experience.
 
  Microsoft Word - Beginning SBEC

Instruction in the basics of Microsoft Word. Includes creating documents, inserting pictures, setting tabs, changing margins, adding page numbering, mailing labels, plus more.

Prerequisite: Must have good basic Windows skills, including navigating and using the mouse. This is not an entry-level class for beginners.
 
  Microsoft Excel - Beginning SBEC

Instruction in the basics of Microsoft Excel. Create and format spreadsheets, perform math calculations, build and query databases, merge data into Word documents (labels, envelopes and form letters), create graphs, plus more.

  Your Digital Camera & You SBEC

All cameras welcome! Whether you have a point & shoot or digital SLR, get the most out of your camera. Includes interpreting your camera's manual, using your camera's features and settings such as optical zoom and digital zoom, image resolution & quality, ISO, white balance, shutter speed, aperture settings, depth of field, exposure metering, flash techniques, shooting with a timer, previewing, and deleting. After learning to download images to the computer, then master the art of printing and sharing images by emailing and/or uploading to free online photo galleries. Some basic Photoshop techniques covered. An additional fee required for a field trip to apply techniques in the field. Course tuition includes a multi-format digital media reader.

Prerequisite: Must have good basic Windows skills, including navigating and using the mouse. Must have and bring your own digital camera to class every week This is not an entry-level class.

Continue perfecting your digital photography skills. This course concentrates on studying specific shooting environments and techniques. Covers Indoor, Night & Low Light, Action, Close-Ups, Portraits, Landscapes, and more. Will include several field trips which are scheduled during the day and evening on both Saturday and Sunday depending on location and photography topic..

Prerequisite: Must have and bring your own digital camera to class every week. Must have previously taken "Your Digital Camera & You" class or know the basic features and commands of your camera, including scene modes, shutter speeds, aperture settings, and ISO. This is not an entry-level class of beginners.

Learn to professionally edit & manipulate digital images with Photoshop & Photoshop Elements. Includes beginning, intermediate & advanced topics, such as cropping, sizing, color balance, brightness & contrast, correcting red eye, layers, text, merging multiple photos together, creating collages, masks, repairing old photos, cloning, cutting & pasting between photos, and a GREAT DEAL MORE! If Photoshop does it, so do we! We use Photoshop in class, but most commands covered in class are the same or similar in the Photoshop Elements program.

Prerequisite: Must have good basic Windows skills, including navigating and file management. Good mouse control is a must! This is not an entry-level class.

    Repair your old photos. Learn photo editing, restoration, and repair techniques. Course will include scheduled class time for students to work on and get help with their own photos.

Prerequisite: Must have expert control of the mouse, must know and be able to use all basic Photoshop and selection techniques covered in the Photoshop I course. This is not a beginning Photoshop class.

  Web Design With Dreamweaver SBEC

Web Site Design Learn web design with Dreamweaver, the premier web design software. Learn text, fonts, images, links, image maps, rollovers, forms, tables, sounds, styles, templates, site management, registering your domain, uploading to the web, registering with search engines, updating your site and much, much more. Each student will create their own personal or business web site and upload it to the web by the end of the semester.

Prerequisite: Prior enrollment in Basics of Windows or basic Windows skills. Should be familiar with basic word processing and how to use the Internet.
 
  Web Design II SBEC

By Popular Demand! Continuation of beginning Dreamweaver course. Work in-depth with graphical layout, tables, templates, CSS, inserting javascript and host-supplied scripts, features supplied with hosting accounts, uploading, plus more. Course includes structured learning as well as time for students to work on and get personalized help with their own web projects.

Prerequisite: Must have taken Web Design I with Dreamweaver and/or know the basics of working with Dreamweaver covered in that course, including creating sites and web pages.

Certification Courses

Most Microsoft & CompTIA certifications qualify for college credit. As a reminder: Passing 1 Microsoft exam earns the MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional). Also, A+ certification, Network+ certification, and 3 basic Microsoft exams earn the MCSA (Microsoft Certified System Administrator).
